On the Eve of the Rite of Survival

At the TrekBBS forum, there is a "Fan Art" subforum that has a monthly contest. The topic for April 2012 was "A New Beginning" - something just starting out in the Star Trek universe.

This was my submission, which happened to win that month's challenge, based on an idea I came up with back in 1985. I entitled it "On the Eve of the Rite of Survival". I figured the Klingons have all kinds of coming-of-age rituals. It made sense that a young Klingon warrior might be taken out to some remote wilderness world to fend for himself and survive for a week.
